- Satellite Access
NEC's second generation Mobile Satellite Telephone provides automatic access to the public telephone network Australia wide, via satellite.
- Fax/Data Modem
An inbuilt modem allows a facsimile machine to be connected (V21, V22, V22bis, V27, V27ter)
- 2 Wire port
An inbuilt 2 Wire (or 4 wire option) circuit allows connection of a standard telephone, cordless phone, answering machine, or facsimile machine.
- Serial Port
The serial port allows direct R5232 (V.24) connection to a computer providing Hayes compatible transmission and reception of data and facsimile.
- Redial functions
The last five numbers may be recalled at the press of a button. Should the number be busy, repeat redial may be initiated.
- Phone Number Memories
189 alphanumeric memories plus 10 Emergency numbers (99 normal memories, 89 lockable memories,10 Emergency numbers.)
- Alphanumeric Memory
The alphanumeric memory allows storage of up to 10 characters alongside each telephone number. When the number is selected, the alphanumeric label is also displayed.
- Memory Scroll
The memory can be scrolled alphabetically or numerically for quick access to telephone numbers.
- Programmable function keys
Common key sequences may be programmed to a special hotkey for ease of use (eg: setting Call Diversion, Voicemail, etc…)
- Call-In-Absence Indicator
If a call comes in while the phone is in Standby mode and you are away from the phone, the display shows the message "CALLED". The display will indicate the number of unanswered calls.

- Unattended Operation
With an answering machine, facsimile, data or messaging equipment connected, the NEC S2 can perform functions unattended.
- Any Key Answer
You can answer a call by hitting any key, except PWR.
- Automatic Lock
Restricts unauthorised operation without PIN code entry.
- Handsfree Answering
Calls are answered automatically and switch to handsfree after two rings.
- Clock
Digital time-of-day display.
- Low Battery Alarm
The phone sounds a warning and displays a message when the supply voltage drops below a suitable level.
- Signal Strength Indicator
Indicates if the view to the satellite is obstructed.
- Illuminated handset
The handset display and keypad backlight can be turned on for nighttime use.
- Horn Alert
The horn will sound on receipt of an incoming call.
- Reception of messages
Messages can be received and displayed on the handset.
- Pre-Stored Messages
Up to 40 frequently used messages (comprising up to 30 alphanumeric characters) can be stored ready for transmission at any time.
